Announcing Fast Track · Friday, March 24, 2006

A few weeks after the TurboGears web application framework came out, I started looking for a reason to develop an application with it. I work at Optio Software where I am a team lead on several software projects. I love my job, and the company is absolutely fantastic, but I found myself spending far too much time filling in weekly “status reports” for my boss. After some discussion, we decided that we might be able to do something better.

Thus was born Fast Track — simpler project status tracking. Fast Track is written on top of TurboGears, and has been running behind a lighttpd instance and a PostgreSQL database at my office without a hitch for months. I have been absolutely amazed how productive I am with TurboGears, and the application seems to be a success.

Today we are releasing Fast Track as an open source project under the MPL license. We hope that it can be a learning tool for TurboGears developers, and we are hoping that we can get some help in improving the project.

  1. I just posted this to reddit.com, hope you don’t mind, should get it more exposure (though I don’t know where else you’ve announced it)
